Job purpose

This is a wide ranging role joining the business after its initial ramp up and as it embarks on the next stage of growth, completing its planned build and onboarding new wholesale and B2B business.

This role will have responsibility for the nexfibre business plan. This includes owning its preparation, driving the periodic re-assessment of assumptions and lead updates for the nexfibre Board as required by the Shareholders Agreement. The role holder will use the business plan to support commercial decision making and the commercialisation of nexfibre’s network, including support to the Chief Commercial Officer and the Commercial team . The role will support our assessment of the competitive landscape and will be a key member of the team supporting analysis of inorganic M&A opportunities. This role will also support the shareholder Treasury teams with financing initiatives.

Working in collaboration with both the Finance and Strategy teams to support a range of projects across all aspects of the business and our network build plan. This individual will work with nexfibre’s senior management (up to C Suite) as well as the Investor representatives on nexfibre’s board of directors to help the management team monitor and effectively financially plan the strategic priorities and direction of the business.

Although Nexfibre is a startup organization formed in December 2022, the business operates with the blue chip context of its investors InfraVia Capital Partners, Liberty Global and Telefónica as well as its strategic partner, Virgin Media O2.  The role will work very closely with the strategy team at Virgin Media O2, as well as the investment teams at our investors.


Key accountabilities

  • Working in a high growth, entrepreneurial and dynamic environment, focused on highest standards of implementation and delivery. Working collaboratively and partnering across technical and operational business teams as well as with external stakeholders and advisers.
  • Provide financial input and co-ordinate the formulation of robust business plan and investor model as well as monitoring progress towards their achievement
  • The development of business plan assumptions, working across nexfibre operational, finance and strategy teams and, where appropriate other parties (e.g. VMO2); validation of these assumptions with nexfibre senior management and Investors
  • Create, present and answer questions on business plan scenario planning internally and for investors
  • Responsibility for monitoring, tracking and explaining the nexfibre business plan’s variances against the Investor model
  • Draw attention to important trends and opportunities to maximise earning and minimise risk
  • Close collaboration with wider Finance team to ensure alignment across long-term and short-term financial planning
  • Support special projects where necessary, such as organic and inorganic business opportunities (including build strategy, wholesale and B2B opportunities as well as M&A)
  • Provide relevant and analytical financial insight to help in the formulation of business strategy
  • Staying up to date with the competitive landscape and trends and the fostering of excellence and best practice

Knowledge & experience

  • Degree level education / relevant professional qualifications
  • Experience in Finance, ideally in the telecoms sector and with fibre experience
  • Experience in Strategy preferred but not required
  • High attention to detail: highly analytical and pay strong attention to accuracy of output
  • Strong financial modelling and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication and project management skills
  • Solutions orientated and able to simplify complex matters
  • Self-sufficient, comfortable with working autonomously as well as in cross-functional teams and proactive in proposing commercial solutions; acts as strategic business adviser to senior management
  • Dynamic and proficient in managing multiple material matters at any one time – able to manage stress and to work calmly and quickly under pressure; high energy levels and work ethic
  • Strong commercial acumen, together with the ability and creditability to form effective relationships across all levels, including senior levels of management
  • Strong moral/ethical convictions
