Nexfibre is a new £4.5 billion joint venture between Infravia Capital Partners, Liberty Global and Telefónica.  It has been formed to deliver ultra-fast fibre broadband to up to 7 million homes across the UK over the next 4 years.

Together with our commercial partner Virgin Media O2, we will create the first national scale competitor to BT Openreach and will provide consumers and businesses across the UK with better innovation and choice.

Job purpose


This is a wide ranging role as one of the first members of the high-growth startup nexfibre business.  Operating within a small team, this individual will work across a variety of legal, company secretarial, regulatory and commercial areas, including: commercial contracts, wholesale telecoms contracts, telecoms regulatory, network security, company secretarial activities and M&A.

This role supports the General Counsel and Legal Director of nexfibre and will have a key role in the development and implementation of the business’s legal and regulatory strategy. It will also have a role in managing and developing relationships with the business’s key suppliers and customers, including Virgin Media O2.

Although nexfibre is a startup organisation the business operates with the blue chip context of its investors InfraVia Capital Partners, Liberty Global and Telefónica as well as its strategic partner, Virgin Media O2.

Key accountabilities


  • Working in a high growth, entrepreneurial and dynamic environment, focused on highest standards of implementation and delivery.
  • Working closely with the General Counsel and Legal Director and partnering across technical and operational business teams as well as with external stakeholders and advisers.
  • Identifying and managing legal risk and escalating clearly and precisely to stakeholders where appropriate.
  • Assisting with the management of a number of core outsourcing and construction arrangements representing £ hundreds of millions of spend per annum.
  • Assisting with telecoms regulatory and industry reporting obligations, including in respect of Ofcom, BDUK and Openreach.
  • Assisting with the management of a concentrated number of high value telecoms wholesale commercial contracts.
  • Company secretarial duties.
  • Involvement in wide range of projects of nexfibre, including M&A activity.
  • Acting as a key member of the nexfibre business, staying up to date with legal and regulatory developments and trends and the fostering of excellence and best practice.

Knowledge & experience


  • Degree level education / relevant professional qualifications
  • 2-4 years PQE
  • Experience of corporate and commercial law
  • Excellent communication and project management skills
  • Solutions orientated and able to simplify complex matters
  • Self-sufficient, comfortable with working autonomously as well as in cross-functional teams; acts as business adviser to management
  • Ability to multitask and to work calmly and quickly under pressure; high energy levels and work ethic
  • Strong commercial acumen, together with the ability and creditability to form effective relationships across all levels
  • Strong moral/ethical convictions
