nexfibre’s acquisition of Netomnia is a landmark deal for the UK fibre market, which underpins the country’s ambitions for the future of its digital economy. It is important that the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has the analysis and information it needs to reach a timely decision, which is why we requested to fast-track the process directly to Phase 2.

At a critical moment for the sector this deal will unlock £3.5bn of international investment, and create the scale required for a sustainable challenger. It will establish wholesale competition to BT Openreach, driving greater choice, better quality and improved value for customers, while supporting a faster transition to full fibre.

The altnet market remains fragile, and the window to secure long-term competition is narrowing. The choice is clear; establish a strong competitive framework for next-generation broadband, or maintain the monopolistic status quo which is holding our country back.

This is Britain’s broadband moment. Let’s seize it.

“We requested a fast-track to Phase 2 to get to the right answer faster; ensuring due process, while recognising urgency. We look forward to continuing our constructive engagement with the CMA.

This deal would create the scaled, sustainable alternative to the BT Openreach monopoly, something the UK market still lacks. Every day of delay reinforces the incumbent’s advantage and slows the progress of genuine competition.”
